I want to tell you a story as below:
Someday in 1995 my friend asked his teacher a question about recognition on nationality between the Min Dynasty and the Chin Dynasty. To be frank, he was advocating independence of Taiwan. The purpose questioned his teacher was to identify whether he was a conservative or not. The teacher had a smart reply,"nationality is a modern terms. In early Chin Dynasty what the intellectuals concerned is the surrvival of ethnic culture of Han, instead of so called 'nationality'. Therefore we have to re-think the value of historiography and separately condsider the real definition of modern and the past."
I really doubt the use of historiography to the problem we're suffering now. Maybe historians are always egoists. That's why I don't want to continue studying this subject.
I left a question to you,"What is subjective and how to reach it." By the way, I ever majored in history in NCHU and that was my worst period. So please don't attend that department.
